My Niece is walking in Memory of her GORGEOUS Brother, and my PRECIOUS Nephew, Brody Maddox Cyphers who is now our Angel waiting for us in Heaven. This is a letter from Lesha and the reasons she participates in the MARCH FOR BABIES;
This time last year, I didn't think I would participate in the March for Babies. I thought that life was hectic enough without adding something like this to it. On March 4th, 2008, I changed my mind. Really, Brody changed my mind. At 24 weeks 2 days gestation, the doctors didn't give him much chance of living past 1 hour. Born 16 weeks early at 1 pound 4 ounces and 12 inches long, I said that he was a tee tiny version of absolute perfection. A beautiful baby boy with perfect little fingers and perfect little toes. Perfect little everything, really. I don't believe you could look at him and not believe in the miracles of God. Doctors, nurses, technology, and LOTS of prayer from lots of people supported Brody in his fight to stay with us. Nine days into Brody's fight, God saw fit to give him rest and let Brody come to be with Him. How amazing to think that the first steps that Brody took were on streets of the purest gold, and that his first trip home was to his mansion Jesus had prepared for him! Sure, the entire family was praying that he would be able to make it home with us, but how good it is to know who his home is such a magnificent place. At the end of the nine days, I thought, "If Brody can fight that hard, I can walk a few miles to do my part in supporting the research that will help to ensure that this type of thing happens less often." The March for Babies (previously known as the March of Dimes) does just that. They put countless hours and efforts into finding reasons this happens, and trying to make sure that other families don't have to go through such a loss. I understand the economic times, and that people are cutting budgets. The March of Dimes started literally as a march for dimes. President Roosevelt and a famous man of the time, Eddie Cantor, asked people to send in their dimes. Following the introduction of this new idea, they had received over 2,680,000 dimes ($268,000.00) proving that every little bit adds up.
I walk for Brody. I walk because I miss him everyday, and I'm praying that one day premature birth and other birth defects won't be an issue for any baby. Please do what you can. It takes you and me working together to give these babies a chance. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated.
